SalafiMedia.com PWN3D – Maybe not – still working to figure it out

UPDATE: I have been checking regularly and the site still appears to be up, and still traces back to HostMonster/BlueHost.  The other site also is still reporting that they are suspended, so I’m not sure what that’s about, but salafimedia.com is still up and operational as of yesterday afternoon, 10/12.

…………………..

Apparently.

I got confirmation from a couple other folks and they get the same as I do when they look at the site:

It remains to be seen if this is temporary or permanent.  We’ll be watching!  And if it is permanent, kudos to BlueHost/Hostmonster for taking out the trash.

..

Backstory here and here.

..

Just to be clear – the website taken down is the mouthpiece of this guy – the most honest muslim ever:

So many rabbit trails, so little time

No new news on the SalafiMedia.com site so far today.  Yesterday I did send examples with screenshots to explain why I believe the site should be removed from BlueHost’s servers.  I imagine that it takes a while for an ISP to do that — and I also imagine that the more complaints they receive, the greater the likelihood that there will be follow-through.  If you’re up for it, please contact abuse@bluehost.com with a complaint!

So last night I was playing around a bit on the SalafiMedia site and found some rabbit trails.  Another friend was playing too, and I’ll be chasing some of these down as I have time.

Rabbit trail #1:

When I mouseover links to the videos at the SalafiMedia, I see in the bottom of my screen on the taskbar that it is transferring information from another site:  salafihd.com.  It appears from a googlecache of that site to be a German version of SalafiMedia.com.

The tracer route shows that it returns to Hostmonster/Bluehost.  It is my intent to send a complaint about this site as soon as I have confirmation from Bluehost that the English version is removed.

Rabbit trail #2:

When I mouseover the link to one of the promoted sites that’s in the scrolling squares at the bottom of SalafiMedia’s home page, I see a link in my taskbar to alghurabaa.org.  This site hosts many video and audio recording of Sheiks and Imams including Anwar Al-Awlaki, the  Al Qaeda-linked cleric who’s hiding out in Yemen after inspiring multiple terrorism attacks here in the US.

I ran some checks and found that alghurabaa.org is hosted by Dreamhost on US servers.

Dreamhost has the standard Terms of Service agreements which include a paragraph about using their services only for a “Lawful Purpose.”

Because Anwar Al-Awlaki is a fugitive from U.S. justice and there are Executive Orders in place which prohibit any aid or support, material or otherwise, being given to him as a terrorist, it is illegal for DreamHost to be hosting and allowing dissemination of these videos.   Send your complaints to abuse@dreamhost.com.  Make sure to remind them how “illegal” violates their Terms of Service as that seems to be more important to them than that they are doing something illegal.

More rabbit trails to come later today.

US ISP Bluehost is home to SalafiMedia.com terrorists UPDATE: PWN3D

From UNDhimmi:

UK Terror Supporter Choudary in Jihad TV Station, YouTube Channel Launch

British terror nuts are planning to launch a new hate-filled TV station.

Vile Muslim extremists will use the evil network to call their supporters to “the battlefield”.

The internet station will include live broadcasts from preachers of hate such as Anjem Choudary and Omar Bakri Muhammad. And its organisers are even advertising sermons from a convicted terrorist.

The scheme was unveiled in a video posted on YouTube by a group calling itself Salafi Media.com.Opening titles feature the sound of guns being cocked and automatic weapons being fired.

One of those expected to appear is Brit Muslim Shah Jalal Hussain, who was jailed in 2008 for raising funds for terrorist groups in Iraq.

He will be joined by Saiful Islam, said to have organised an anti-troops demo in Luton last year. London-based Choudary has already used a similar web channel in the US to threaten: “There are many battlefields, my dear Muslims.

“There’s a battlefield in Bethnal Green and Whitechapel – there’s a battlefield outside 10 Downing Street.”

The Home Office said the site was being monitored. A spokesman added: “It contains material which would be illegal if it were hosted in the UK. This site is hosted in the US.

Maybe we should do something about that, huh?  I decided to look into just who in the US would host such a site and it didn’t take long to find out.

So it’s “Bluehost.”  I took a quick look at their terms of service and they are pretty standard.  A few of the points of interest are these:

No Subscriber may utilize the Services to provide, sell or offer to sell the following: controlled substances; illegal drugs and drug contraband; weapons; pirated materials; instructions on making, assembling or obtaining illegal goods or weapons to attack others; information used to violate the copyright(s) of, violate the trademark(s) of or to destroy others’ intellectual property or information; information used to illegally harm any people or animals; pornography, nudity, sexual products, programs or services; escort services or other content deemed adult related.

Obscene, Defamatory, Abusive or Threatening Language. Use of the Services to store, post, transmit, display or otherwise make available obscene, defamatory, harassing, abusive or threatening language is prohibited.

In addition, the failure of Subscriber to cooperate with BlueHost.Com in correcting or preventing violations of these Terms by, or that result from the activity of, a subscriber, patron, customer, invitee, visitor, or guest of the Subscriber constitutes a violation of these Terms by Subscriber.

And finally…

Lots of blah blah blah, except that as a convicted terrorist, Shah Jalal Hussain would be prohibited from having a platform based out of the United States.  Anyone out there want to join me in contacting abuse@bluehost.com to let them know who they are hosting?  Most likely they have no idea.

Let’s roll!!

Update:

Bluehost claims that salafimedia.com is not hosted by them.  I pointed them to the check I ran and asked if there was something I had missed, but their response was only

Again this domain (salafimedia.com) is not registered with us nor is the content hosted by use.

Regards,

A friend ran a tracer route this morning that led to Hostmonster.com which, according to the same search site, is hosted by….drum roll…Bluehost.com.  Still emailing with them.  Will keep you all posted.

Update 2:

Ran my own tracer routes.

Update 3:

Bluehost sent an apology and asked for evidence of illegal activity.  I have to say, they are VERY responsive!  Much better than most ISPs that I have dealt with.

Update 4:

After a few back and forth emails in which I supplied them with adequate evidence of illegal activity, BlueHost appears to have suspended the salafimedia.com website.  Thanks to all who helped with this effort!

Update 4:

Not so sure – a reader alerted us that the site is back up.  We’ll keep watching.
