Facebook Jihadis

I received an item today from another member of the YouTube Smackdown crew.  I am usually more centered on YouTube and how that entity facilitates violent jihadis, but I could not just let this pass without sending it on for more attention.  It seems that Facebook is doing their part to contribute to the violence also.  I do not have permission to use the name of the person from whom this was originally received, so I will redact that portion of their email.

It is time to shame facebook for their continued inactivity in preventing terrorists from using their platform!  It is time to publicly call them out.  There are many of us who spend our individual free time “reporting” pages, to no avail.  Facebook must do a better job of keeping terrorists and their supporters from using facebook to promote their agendas and activities!  Please help.

Here is a SMALL list of sites that I regularly “report.”

Murder in Palestine

On Saturday, the news came that a cowardly terrorist broke into the home of Rabbi Vogel and family in the Itamar settlement on the West Banke in the middle of the night and murdered the Rabbi, his wife and three of their children.  One of the children was only three months old.  Horrific. Odd that the stories seem to omit that the deceased is a Rabbi, as in this ABC story:

Settler family killed in West Bank: Israel

Posted March 12, 2011 13:04:00

A Palestinian infiltrator killed five Israelis in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank early on Saturday, an Israeli military spokeswoman said.

Israeli media said the attacker broke into a house in the settlement of Itamar overnight and stabbed to death a couple and three children, including a baby, from the same family.

“Five civilians were killed in this terrorist attack,” the spokeswoman said.

She said troops were searching for the attacker in the area around Itamar, which is near the Palestinian city of Nablus.

She gave no further details.

Reuters

The stories also tend to stress that this is “unusual” in a period of “relative quiet,” or as the Atlanta Journal and Constipation called it, “a lengthy lull.”  The AJC mentioned that

Israel has long contended that Palestinian textbooks and official media are full of hatred toward the Jewish state, and that killers of Israelis are often glorified

but stopped short of telling the rest of the story

The brutal attack comes only days after a West Bank Palestinian youth center announced a soccer tournament named after Wafa Idris, the first female Palestinian suicide bomber, who killed an 81-year-old man and injured over 100 other Israelis.

The glorification of this suicide bomber, though, was virtually ignored by Western media outlets, many of whom did find time to report, in great detail, on the first home game by the Palestinian national soccer team.

The latter event makes for an interesting human interest story. The former helps explain why peace has been so elusive in the Middle East. It’s likely that the terrorist who wiped out the family knew of the soccer tournament named after Wafa Idris. And if not he — or she — certainly knew that scores of other suicide bombers have been lauded as heroes by the Palestinian government and media. The killer undoubtedly internalized the message, reinforced time and time again, that it’s noble and heroic to kill Jews. The same goes for the person who planned the attack, and the one who transported the killer, and any other enablers.

The media is also, by choice of headline, intimating that the Israeli government is building 400 (or 500) new homes for Jews in the area as a response to the attack.

From Reuters:  Israel to Build Settler Homes After Palestinian Attack

Israel said on Sunday it would build several hundred homes for settlers in the occupied West Bank, a day after a Palestinian attack killed an Israeli couple and three of their children in a settlement.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a special session of a ministerial committee on settlement to approve the step after pledging publicly the stabbings on Saturday would not deter Israel from building more homes for Jews in the West Bank.

From the Ottowa Citizen: Israel to build settler homes after deadly attack

The AJC‘s story starts with:

Israel responded defiantly Sunday to a bloody Palestinian assault against West Bank settlers by approving construction of new settlement housing, retaliating for the stabbing deaths of a father, mother and three small children with a measure that infuriated Palestinians and, together with the attack, threw already shaky peace efforts into a new tailspin.

The announcement came after the killings, true.  But no doubt the plans were in place before the terrorist went nuts.

Rabbi Avichai Ronski, spokesman for the settlement which, is home to 800 Jews, was defiant after the attack.

“Our response to this crime is not to seek revenge but to carry on with construction” of more Jewish homes.

Whatever the imagined reasons, the truth of the matter is that a whackjob Islamic terrorist broke into the home of a Jewish Rabbi and murdered him, his wife, and three of his children including a 3 month old baby and a toddler.  There are no amount of constructions projects that legitimize murder.  None.  And to play with semantics here in the west and offer up excuses will serve only to lend tacit approval to what happened.

May God rest their souls.

Adding a new poster to my blog

Just a note that my friend HirabistHunter from YouTube has finally consented to join me in posting on my blog.  He now has access to post at will, and I wanted to introduce you to him.  As his name implies, he is a Hirabist hunter extraordinaire and has put a lot of time into finding violent hirabists (including the likes of “Jihad Jane” Colleen LaRose) online.  Welcome aboard sir!  Looking forward to your posts!

What the protesters are really telling us about Islamic radicalization

If you listen very closely, you will hear the muslim protestors telling us that, in fact, their religion is NOT a religion of peace, but of violence.  No – not in so many words, but it is the logical conclusion we can draw from images like these:

Let’s enjoy a little story, shall we?

I am a Baptist.  I go to church with lots of other Baptists.  We sing songs, read the Bible, pray – that sort of thing.  Not really shocking things for Baptists to admit to doing.  Along comes this radical, disgusting bunch of inbred pigs led by Fred Phelps known as the Westboro Baptist Church.  They are NOTHING like me.  Their belief system is centered on hating their fellow man – mine is on loving those around me.  They spit on our soldiers and step on our flag – my church proudly holds a special patriot service every year for July 4th and we recognize and honor the veterans in our midst.  They scream about how “God hates fags!” while my church teaches us to love homosexuals even as we recognize that their lifestyle is not consistent with the teachings of Christ.  So different from me, but they are called by that same name – Baptist!   Now let’s say that the Methodists and the Catholics and the Lutherans in Congress get together and decide they need to have a congressional hearing looking into the reasons that this particular group of Baptists has gotten so far off the reservation as to protest at soldiers funerals and harass the family members of the fallen warriors.  What do you think my response would be?  Would I wring my hands and get upset because the other religions are picking on Baptists?  Would I organize a protest and carry signs that say “BaptistAmerican” or “Don’t persecute Baptists?”  No – I wouldn’t.  I would WELCOME the investigations.  The reason for my welcoming of the investigation is this:  these people are nothing like me, and I would want to make sure that there’s nothing that my particular church could be doing that would cause people to end up with that twisted idea of right and wrong.

Now – let’s rewrite that story to a different narrative, shall we?

I am a Muslim.  I go to church with lots of other Muslims.  We sing songs, read the Koran, pray – that sort of thing.  Not really shocking things for Muslims to admit to doing.  Along comes this radical, disgusting bunch of inbred pigs led by Anwar Al Awlaki and others known as radical islamists.  They are NOTHING like me.  Their belief system is centered on hating their fellow man – mine is on loving those around me.  They “worship” by killing people – my church proudly helps the downfallen.  They scream obscenities about Jews while my church teaches us to love Jews even as we recognize that their lifestyle is not consistent with the teachings of Mohammed.  So different from me, but they are called by that same name – Muslim!   Now let’s say that the Republicans and Democrats in Congress get together and decide they need to have a congressional hearing looking into the reasons that this particular group of Muslims has gotten so far off the reservation as to call for and cause the deaths of many  Americans.  What do you think my response would be?

You already know the answer.  The Muslims who are supposedly peaceful are marching in protest of the hearings on the element of radicalization within the Islamic community.  The hearings are NOT about peaceful muslims.  The hearings are about RADICALS.  It seems to me that the protesters are identifying themselves with the radicals – which begs the question…  are they?  And why is the MSM ignoring the obvious?

H/T to Joe Pags who got me thinking this morning.

YouTube: The Bart Simpson of Radicalization

So I got a hit today on a Google Alert I have up that went to the New York Times.  Holding my breath, because I didn’t harbor much hope that the piece would be balanced, I clicked the link and was transported to their site and an article titled “Radical Cleric Still Speaks on YouTube.”  As Andrea would say “NO SH!T SHERLOCK!!”  Ok, I’ll give them a couple points for trying, but seriously – President Obama has given the nod to taking Awlaki out whenever or wherever possible, but we can’t get him off YouTube – why? exactly?  Because we want to protect his free speech rights?  As Rusty said “I can drop a bomb on Osama bin Laden, I just can’t take away his microphone?”  Hello people!  The dude is a certified terrorist and gave up his rights to free speech when he chose to join the minions attempting to implement sharia law.

From the NY Times:

…members of Congress last year appealed to YouTube to remove calls for violence by Mr. Awlaki, the militant American-born cleric now hiding in Yemen, and in an announcement reported around the world last November, YouTube agreed.

End of story?

Not at all. A quick search of YouTube today for “Anwar al-Awlaki” finds hundreds of his videos, most of them scriptural commentary or clerical advice, but dozens that include calls for jihad or attacks on the United States.

I can just hear Andrea jumping up and down and screaming.  She (along with undhimmi, the Jawa Report and others) has been documenting the games played by YouTube with the video numbers ad nauseum. ARGH!

The article goes on to cite quotes from YouTube about just how much video is uploaded and how impossible it is for them to police and the old standby “we rely on our community” blah blah blah to police the site.  But here’s the rub:

The system has prevented YouTube from succumbing to the otherwise inevitable flood of pornography, which is directed to reviewers by software that scans uploaded videos for flesh tones. Computers also give priority to the review of videos with a high “flag-to-view ratio,” suggesting that many viewers are upset about it. Software bumps to a low priority videos that have previously been reviewed, as well as those flagged by users who have a record of, say, objecting to every Justin Bieber video.

So if I, as a user of YouTube’s services, object to every Awlaki video, or every video that features a coalition soldier being blown to smithereens, my flags are given a low priority by their software?  How is that relying on their community?  More like ignoring the segment of the community that actually takes the time to flag videos.

Additionally, this sounds like some pretty sophisticated software.  Something that, I don’t know, intelligent should easily be written to, say, remove every video that has Awlaki associated with it.  Hmmm…. interesting thought.

The variety and volume of Mr. Awlaki’s YouTube material makes it more difficult than might be supposed to decide its fate. Should his sermon on what makes a good marriage come down? His account of the final moments of the Prophet Muhammad? His counsel on the proper diet for a good Muslim?

Such material does not violate any YouTube standard.

What about the executive order that is supposed to prevent US interests from aiding and abetting terrorists in any way whatsoever, including by offering them services for free?  Oh wait – I don’t suppose that’s the standard they’d like to discuss.

It may be that the crowdsourcing that drives YouTube, its reliance on the masses, becomes the ultimate answer to violent messages on the site, more than company censors. Anti-jihad activists with names like the YouTube Smackdown Corps patrol the site constantly, flagging what they consider to be offensive material.

At a site called Jihadi Smackdown of the Day (“Countering the cyber-jihad one video at a time”), the links for past YouTube videos of Mr. Awlaki now usually lead to a standard message: “This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube’s policy.”

But if the people who flag more often are given a lower priority, just how will that work?  I think we’ve just been given a clue to what’s going on behind the wizard’s curtain, and, as I suspected, it’s about like confronting a couple of 7 year old Bart Simpsons over a broken lamp.

And while everyone’s pointing at everyone else, the environment remains ripe for the radicalization of yet another once-A-student-in-high-school-turned-Al-Shabab-wannabe.  At what point is enough enough?
